It has been a while since our last post and many of you may have been wondering where we disappeared to. We have been extremely busy over the past several months and to be honest I need to get myself on a schedule for posting updates to keep our online community informed about what’s going on in the coffeehouse world and also to put my thoughts on this experience in writing because its great therapy for me. Sorry for the long gap guys.

So here we are at the 9 month mark and just as excited about the journey as we were at the beginning! Tired to be honest, I’ve spend the past few months being more mentally taxed than I have ever been, and this is the beginning of the vision we collectively share for the business. We have reflected on the many mistakes we have made and are confident that as a result of learning from those failures we are in a better position today to make better decisions. I am pleased to see that we are still seeing our sales increase month over month after our difficult summer.

We have received many, many excellent suggestions from our guests (one exception is John Luke’s that we have a Rick James music night). Mary who is expecting twins next year said we should change the name to “Kaiteur Coffeehome” because that is what we are to her, we love you Mary. We have shared the loss of family members with several guests and have received amazingly humbling and heart warming feedback about how our presence, willingness to pray with, for, cry, hug or simply genuinely listen to someone has deeply affected their lives. I tell all of the folks that work here that this business is not about coffee, it is about relationship and we use great coffee as a vehicle to get that to the folks that come through our doors everyday.

On the subject of people who work here, we have two excellent new team members! Tori and Vicky, they’re kind of funny looking (especially Vicky) so no picture attached. These guys are the best, totally different personalities but both committed to making the experience of those who have decided to spend their time with us everyday the best anywhere. And of course the indescribable Jennifer is still with us adding value in ways that I never get tired of telling her about. She is simply the best partner that I could ever have wished to have worked with over the past 6 or 7 months.

Every morning I get up a few hours after midnight, stretch and wonder why I didn’t ask Jennifer to open for me that morning, iron my clothes, shower and leave. I get to the store have a great cup of coffee and by the time the first guest comes in and we share a smile I remember that this is the best place to work. You guy are the reason I am able to work here by choosing to spend you money with us and I and the folks that enjoy serving you everyday will never take you for granted. I am eagerly looking forward to the Christmas holiday and with the decorations in store I have already started to get into the Christmas spirit.

Looking forward we are planning to start podcasting about some of our daily experiences so look for that in the New Year. A personal confession of mine, I often get to the end of one of these posts and realize that I could go on and on about many more amazing experiences with you guys that have changed my life forever. In closing, know that we will always listen. See you in store!
